INTRODUCTION TO PHARMACOLOGY

Definition :

• Science of drugs
• Interaction of exo-genously administered chemical molecules within living systems
• Any chemical substance which produce a biological response is known as ‘drug’

Divisions :

Two major divisions of Pharmacology are,

•  Pharmacotherapeutics
• Toxicology

Pharmacodynamics - Drug action on the body

Pharmacokinetics - Body reaction to the drug

Pharmacotherapeutics - Adding of pharmacological information together with disease knowledge 

for its prevention, mitigation or cure

Toxicology -  Study about the poisonous effects of drugs and also other chemicals
